Truckers Against Trafficking was created with the purpose of showing the trucking industry that they are vital in this fight.
40 million victims.
Human Trafficking is a worldwide tragedy effecting around 40 million individuals. In fact, the estimated number of human trafficking victims is close to the same number of registered residents living in the state of California. Comprised mostly of women and children, these victims are being bought and sold around the clock and forced into enslavement or commercial sex. Because of this, Human Trafficking commonly referred to as our world’s modern-day slavery.
Hundreds of Thousands American Citizens
With reports of this heinous crime in all 50 states, this ever-growing epidemic is in our very own back yard. Hundreds of Thousands is the estimated total of victims located within the United States.
Their mission, according to their website, is to “educate, equip, empower and mobilize members of the trucking and busing industries to combat human trafficking”. With an estimated 3.5 Million US truckers, TAT sees the importance of truckers in the fight to end human trafficking.
Truckers are not the only target for TAT. In addition, they have also partnered with law enforcement and government agencies within the United States. For instance, Eight states have already implemented their program as a part of CDL training.
According to TAT’s website at the time of this publication, 845,115 truckers have registered with their program since 2009. In addition, they been able to help identify 1,230 victims.
